Parents spend the first part of our lives teaching us to walk and talk, and the rest of it telling us to sit down and shut up.

War doesn’t determine who’s right. War determines who’s left.

If you think things can’t get worse it’s probably only because you lack sufficient imagination.

You can’t be late until you show up.

Knowledge is realizing that the street is one-way, wisdom is looking both directions anyway.

It isn’t homework unless it’s due tomorrow.

It may look like I’m doing nothing, but I’m actively waiting for my problems to go away.

“See now the power of truth; the same experiment which at first glance seemed to show one thing, when more carefully examined, assures us of the contrary.”  –  Galileo Galilei

“Not only are there meaningless questions, but many of the problems with which the human intellect has tortured itself turn out to be only ‘pseudo problems,’ because they can be formulated only in terms of questions which are meaningless. Many of the traditional problems of philosophy, of religion, or of ethics, are of this character. Consider, for example, the problem of the freedom of the will. You maintain that you are free to take either the right- or the left-hand fork in the road. I defy you to set up a single objective criterion by which you can prove after you have made the turn that you might have made the other. The problem has no meaning in the sphere of objective activity; it only relates to my personal subjective feelings while making the decision.” –  Percy Williams Bridgman

Stand up for Humanity – World Human Rights Day

download-2
Source photo: Google Image

The International Human Rights Day commemorates the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In 1950, the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V), inviting all States and interested organizations to observe 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day.

Since then, every year on 10th December, International Human Rights Day is celebrated all around the world with great joy and happiness to increase the awareness of rights for all humans. Disrespect for basic human rights continues to be wide-spread in all parts of the world. Extremist movements still happen and commit people to horrific violence. Messages of intolerance and hatred are still on daily basis report.  Human values are under attack. Human rights are still violated.

“Upholding human rights is in the interest of all. Respect for human rights advances well-being for every individual, stability for every society, and harmony for our interconnected world” — United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

human_rights

“It’s time for each of us to step up for human rights. There is no action that is too small: wherever you are, you can make a difference. Together, let’s take a stand for more humanity” — UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein

We  all must affirm our common humanity. Wherever we are, we should make a real difference. In the street, in school, at work, in public transport; in the voting booth, on social media. The time to act is now, we all must stand up for the rights, for humanity.

It starts with each of us. Step forward and defend the rights of a refugee or migrant, a person with disabilities, an LGBT person, a woman, a child, indigenous peoples, a minority group, or anyone else at risk of discrimination or violence.

“The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.”
― John F. Kennedy

“Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must — at that moment — become the center of the universe.”
― Elie Wiesel

“Today, poverty prevails as the gravest human rights challenge in the world. Combating poverty, deprivation and exclusion is not a matter of charity, and it does not depend on how rich a country is. By tackling poverty as a matter of human rights obligation, the world will have a better chance of abolishing this scourge in our lifetime… Poverty eradication is an achievable goal.”— UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour, 10 December 2006
