Hello,my name is Simona. I am a radiographer. I have received a lot of messages on Facebook regarding the cancer awareness. Instead of simply posting a heart without any comment, I am writing about this: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a worldwide annual campaign in which are involved thousands of organisations, to highlight the importance of breast cancer awareness, education and research.
Breast cancer is caused by damage to a cell’s DNA and till now are still unknown the exact causes of this malignant tumor.
Each year, about 50,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK. It’s more common in women who are 50 and over, but it can also affect younger women. Also breast cancer in men has become more usual. Around 1 new case of breast cancer is diagnosed for every 100,000 men.Improvements in treatment mean more people are surviving breast cancer.
Most cases of breast cancer are found by women noticing unusual changes and visiting their doctor to get them checked. The earlier breast cancer is found, the better the chance of beating it.
Be breast aware by checking the breast regularly, looking for changes and getting in touch with the doctor in case if something unusual happens.
